The Chanukah holidays in Chernivtsy Jewish Centre were held under the following motto:

“Nothing can be more wonderful than the miracle-oil

in the temple and the Menorah’s light.

When Jews are together with God.

Together and forever”

These are the words from the final song of children’s play which was put by the forces of kids, parents and teachers of Jewish cultural centre. The holiday was a great success.

There were some interesting events held before the final concert. In particular there took place “Meet Chanukah with the whole Jewish family” action. Junior pupils and the youth club of “Stars” program took some holiday parcels to old and disabled people’s home, those people couldn’t celebrate  Chanukah at the Jewish centre (because of their age and disabilities).

The Chanukiah, candles and a set of sweet Chanukah doughnuts – sufganiet were included into the holiday parcel. By the way, this action wasn’t formal. Children brought presents, lit the Chanukah candles, sang the Chanukah songs and by this they brought light to the Jewish homes in direct and indirect meaning.

Before the holiday our Jewish kindergarten showed their matinee. Kids danced, sang, retold poems and brought the modern play called”The Chanukah doughnut’s adventures” to the parents’ attention. Taking into consideration the viewers’ reaction, the premiere was successful.

During all Chanukah days burnt the oil in the big Chanukiah of our community. It was lit by many respected men of Chernivtsi Jewish community. Every evening Rabbi Menakhem Mendle Glintschtein read the blessing before litting the Chanukiah, which eradiated its lights on the Chernivtsy Central square, in front of the entrance to the Jewish House.

And as a final event there took place a concert to which everyone who wanted to share the joy of Chanukah holidays came.

The celebration was interrupted for several minutes, because of sad memories of the Mumbai events. Month ago before that day the envoys of Goltsberg family tragically died.

The whole Jewish community watched a film about the Chanukah miracle on the big screen. It was about the wonderful saving of a Rabbi’s son and Rabanne named Moshe. In this film little Moshe lit his first Chanukah candle after his parents’ death and says the blessing words. No doubt, he will continue their work and “the Chanukah light will never extinguish”.

Little “jugs” dance on the stage; those are the pupils of Jewish cultural Centre. And, at last, one “untouched” jug with the oil is found. All the Chanukah lights in the hall are lit and the notes of the final song are heard. The song sounds like an anthem:

                                  “Let our home’s light burn.

                                     Amen, let it be forever.”
